Part Two – Circa 2016 – Bakersfield Marriott – Corporate Party has started; 300 empty seats, but why? I’ll tell you in a moment. The doors opened 30 minutes before when we snapped a cell pic. There are salads being placed by servers on the mostly empty tables. We get many corporate events with trainings or seminars that segues into some cocktail appreciation. The seminar-training ran a few moments late. We assumed the attendees went back to their room to change. Also notice that there appears to be no dance floor or dance area. The client paid for us to travel from Los Angeles to Bakersfield with the intention of playing festive and upbeat music and said there will be no dancing. Basically they gave all the attendees a hotel room and flight followed by a seminar-training then a salad, dinner with background music and it lasted only 2.5 hours. It’s not a service we normally would do however, it was on a Wednesday in February so it did not conflict with our busy weekend. We have done many karaoke dj parties and the clients told us that “there will probably be no singing” and yet the alcohol and music changes the mood and behold, we are in overtime. So, I guess we thought that same thing would happen here. The truth is about 30% of the attendees decided to skip the dinner and fly back home.
